Lecky - Rapper & Music Artist
Lecky

Australian hip-hop has witnessed the swift and impactful rise of Lecky, a standout artist in its vibrant landscape. Born Alexander Oswald Mowbray, this Australian-Fijian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer has been carving out a unique space for himself in the music industry. We sat down with Lecky to discuss his musical style, recent releases, and future plans.

For those unfamiliar with your work, how would you characterize your sound?

My music is a blend of rap and R&B, all mixed and mastered by myself. I aim to create a sound that’s authentic and true to my experiences.

Your latest album dropped earlier this year. What can you tell us about ‘Enemies 2 Lovers’?

‘Enemies 2 Lovers’ was released on February 10th, 2024. It’s a 16-track album that I’m really proud of. Some of the songs that have been resonating with fans include ‘Secrets’, ‘Sea of Emotion’, ‘Lucky Night’, and ‘Apart’.

Let’s talk about your breakout album from last year. How has the response been?

I’m grateful for how well it was received. It was released in November 2023 through LeckyENT, and it really connected with listeners. Songs like “Love & Lust”, “Goku”, and “Volkanovski” became minor hits, which was fantastic to see.

As a solo artist, you’re involved in every aspect of your music. Could you give us a glimpse into how you create your tracks?

Sure. I typically start by composing an instrumental, and then I freestyle over it. The whole process can take anywhere from less than 20 minutes to several weeks, depending on the song. I’m involved in every step – producing, mixing, mastering, writing, and performing.

What’s the main takeaway you want your audience to have when they listen to your music?

My main hope is that they enjoy it as much as possible. I put a lot of myself into my music, and I want that to come across to the listeners.

If you had the chance to work with any artist in the industry, who would be at the top of your list?

There are so many legends I’d love to collaborate with. If we’re talking verses, 50 Cent would be insane. On the production side, linking up with Scott Storch would be a dream. But you know who’d be the ultimate collab? Pharrell. That guy’s a genius with both lyrics and beats. Working with him would be next level.

What’s on the horizon for Lecky? Any upcoming projects you’re excited about?

I’m currently immersed in creating a new album titled ‘Always & Forever Vol. 1’. The plan is to release it on my birthday, November 8th, 2024. This project holds a special place for me, and I’m genuinely thrilled about it. I’m looking forward to sharing these new tracks with my listeners when the time comes.
